Loaded Owners a genuine star

LOADED OWNERS proved beyond doubt he is a star in the making by powering his way to another impressive win at Tattersall's Park in Hobart.

The Jason Clifford-trained gelding won on debut but against very modest opposition but today he was up against some very talented three-year-olds including the unbeaten Nkwazi's Son that enjoyed a weight advantage over Loaded Owners courtesy of a claim for leading apprentice Jason Maskiell.

Nkwazi's Son led and travelled well to the home turn where he kicked clear by two lengths with the favourite ($1.80) Loaded Owners buried on the rails midfield.

But when a gap appeared Loaded Owners barged through and set sail after the leader, collared the flashy chestnut with the flaxen mane and tail in the blink of an eye and went on to defeat him by three lengths with Fair Colony a closing third.

"I admit I thought we were in a bit of trouble when they turned for home with my horse shut away on the fence and with seemingly nowhere to go," Clifford said.

"But when he got the gap he showed a brilliant turn of foot and he really finished the race off like a real good horse," he said.

It was a masterly ride by premier jockey Brendon McCoull who heaped praise on the Lucky Owners gelding that cost $88,000 at a 2YO ready to run sale on the Gold Coast.

"We were racing really tight fort the whole race and there was very little favour given from the 600m," McCoull said.'

"At the top of the straight he was travelling well and when a gap appeared the horse actually took the run and he picked the leader up easily and just won like a good horse," McCoull said.

Clifford admitted the jury was out on his potential stable star but after the race he was beaming.

"We thought that if he won well today we had ourselves a pretty good horse but he did it a lot easier than I thought he would," Clifford said.

"He won as he liked despite being held up for about 200 metres."

"For him to take the gap of his own accord tells me he just wants to be a racehorse and that is probably the most encouraging thing to come out of the performance," he said.

Loaded Owners is likely to tackle another $20,000 Showcase open 3YO race in a fortnight and then be sent for a short spell.
